Data and communications cabling in Perth
Wired connections still beat wireless for anything that matters. We install structured cabling for homes, offices and industrial sites, certified and labelled so the next person can work out what goes where.
What we do
- Cat6 and Cat6A structured cabling
- Data points for offices, homes and workshops
- Comms cabinets and patch panel termination
- NBN lead in and internal distribution
- WiFi access point cabling and mounting
- Fibre patching and relocation
- Cable testing, certification and labelling
- Office relocations and desk moves
How it works
A WiFi mesh will get you by until the moment it will not. Anything that needs consistent throughput, such as a desk, a point of sale terminal, an access point or a camera, is better on a wire.
We install structured cabling properly: the right category of cable for the job, correct separation from power, terminated to standard, tested, and labelled at both ends. A patch panel with no labels is a problem you pay for later, every time something needs moving.
For offices we handle the full run from comms cabinet to floor box or wall plate, including after hours work where a fit out cannot interrupt trading. For homes we usually run cable back to a central point near the NBN termination so everything lands in one place.
We also take over tidy up work on existing racks, which is more common than you would think.
Compliance and safety
Cabling work that connects to the telecommunications network must be performed by a registered cabler under ACMA rules. All cabling is installed to AS/CA S009 and tested to the relevant category standard, with results provided on request.
Carried out under electrical contractor licence EC17499.
Questions about data & comms
Should I use Cat6 or Cat6A?
Cat6 handles 1Gbps comfortably and 10Gbps over short runs, which covers most homes and small offices. Cat6A is specified for 10Gbps over full length runs and is worth the extra where the cabling needs to last through future upgrades, particularly in commercial fit outs.
Do I really need cabling if I have good WiFi?
For phones and laptops, WiFi is fine. For anything that needs consistent throughput, such as a desk, a point of sale terminal, a camera or a WiFi access point itself, a wired connection is more reliable. Good WiFi actually depends on cabled access points.
Do you need to be licensed to install data cabling?
Yes. Cabling that connects to the telecommunications network must be installed by a registered cabler under ACMA rules. Work that does not meet this requirement can cause problems with your carrier.
Can you tidy up an existing comms rack?
Yes, and it is more common than you would expect. Re-terminating, labelling and patching an existing rack properly makes every future change faster and cheaper.
