Split system air conditioning in Perth

Supply and install, relocations and removals. Sized to the room rather than to whatever was on special, and wired on a dedicated circuit that can carry it.

Split system air conditioner installed high on a living room wall

What we do

  • Split system supply and installation
  • Back to back and extended pipe run installations
  • Multi head systems for several rooms
  • Dedicated circuits and isolator installation
  • Unit relocations and reinstallation
  • Decommissioning and removal of old units
  • Condenser mounting, brackets and stands
  • Condensate drainage

How it works

Two things decide whether a split system performs: the capacity is right for the room, and the installation is clean.

Sizing is the part most often rushed. An undersized unit runs flat out and never quite gets there, while an oversized one short cycles, which is hard on the compressor and poor at removing humidity. We size to the room volume, glazing, orientation and insulation rather than to a rule of thumb.

Installation quality is mostly about the pipe run. Keeping it short and direct, properly flared and evacuated, with the condenser somewhere it can breathe and where the noise is not aimed at a bedroom window or a neighbour's fence. Condensate needs to go somewhere sensible too, which on a second storey is not always obvious.

Every unit goes on its own circuit with an isolator within sight, which is a requirement rather than a nicety, and makes future servicing straightforward.

We also handle removals and relocations, including decommissioning old units ahead of a renovation.

Compliance and safety

Work involving refrigerant handling is carried out under ARC refrigerant handling licensing. Electrical connection, dedicated circuits and isolators are installed under our electrical contractor licence to AS/NZS 3000.

Carried out under electrical contractor licence EC17499.

Questions about air conditioning

What size air conditioner do I need?

It depends on room volume, glazing, orientation and insulation rather than floor area alone. Undersized units run constantly without reaching temperature, and oversized units short cycle, which is hard on the compressor and poor at removing humidity. We size to the room.

What is the difference between back to back and an extended run?

Back to back means the indoor and outdoor units sit either side of the same wall, which is the shortest and cheapest installation. An extended run is needed when the condenser has to go somewhere else, which adds pipe, labour and cost but is often necessary for noise or access reasons.

Does the air conditioner need its own circuit?

Yes. Split systems are installed on a dedicated circuit with an isolator within sight of the unit. This is a requirement, and it also makes future servicing straightforward.

Can you remove or relocate an existing unit?

Yes. We handle decommissioning, removal and relocation, including recovering refrigerant correctly under ARC licensing.
